Thursday’s Lunch

Thursday's Lunch

I’ve been eating at my desk and trying to get commissions done. Currently, I’m in the process on fixing some definite designs and creating some new pieces as well. In some sense, I’m busy, but being busy doesn’t always mean you are making a profit.

Anyways, my lunch started out as spoiled onions and mushrooms with oil and vinegar which wasn’t filling or delicious. So, I made Myojo Chicken Udon Noodle Soup with half a packet of soup base (to cut back the sodium) and a mug of iced vanilla caramel something or other from a very old tin of General Foods International Coffees (it still tasted good to me :D ). The meal was yummy but was entirely lacking in the healthy department aside from the 7g of protein. It was, however, very inexpensive (99ยข) .

Balancing the bowl of soup away from the keyboard and wacom tablet was more than a little challenging. Thankfully, I didn’t spill on any important peripherals. Take that fax machine! You are nearly obsolete!

I’m Happy.

I'm Happy.

One of the most interesting parts of drawing is searching for fashions for my capstones to wear.

I go to shopstyle a lot to do a quick browse of outfits or particular articles of clothing… unless whatever I’m working on is outlandish or historic. Generally, the clothing that ends up in the images on aren’t derivative of any single item of clothing from any brand (with obvious exceptions). I just have fun mixing things up and making them flouncy and girly. I especially like working with the look of tulle, fine lace, and layered veiling and the way fabric drapes. It’s so much fun.

I kind of feel like Kaylee in Shindig (Firefly).

Looking at all the pretties.

But as Mal says,
“What are you going to do in that rig? Flounce around the engine room? Be like a sheep walking on its hind legs.”

So, for now, I’ll just admire at all the pretty clothes and work on my capstones and commissions in the engine room.

I wanted to do a giveaway for my visitors. I envisioned a gift card or a nice item… but since, well, I’m a practically a starving artist, my giveaway is guinea pigs. To be more specific I am giving away icons or images inspired by my faithful sidekick Lunches.

Business Cards

vistaprintbusinesscard02

My business cards arrived! I ordered them from vistaprint with one of those 250 cards for $10 deals. Except the back would have been plain for that amount so I paid a little extra to have a full color card on matte stock. I think it was worth it.

I was very interested in moo.com but I needed some business cards quickly and decided to hold off on moo.com because I wanted to make several versions of my business cards to utilize printfinity. So, vistaprint it was.

This business card certainly an improvement from my haphazardly scrawled e-mail address and it makes me feel surprisingly happy. Just like the hippo buttons :) .

Recap

I’m taking a mini break from commissions to update the site and post a few things that may have gone unnoticed unless you follow me on my private twitter :D .

I ordered my own design “Hippo Code” t-shirt from redbubble.

The quality for the price ($24.54 although I had a discount)… wasn’t there. The paint was already peeling/ not there on part of the design and I won’t even comment on the American Apparel shirt it was printed on.

A book I did the cover for came out! Dominique vs. The Light can be purchased in paperback or kindle format at amazon.com.
Dominique

I ordered business cards as awkwardly scrawling my e-mail on scraps of paper while networking probably isn’t the best way to impress people. The image of The Brunette is from the November 30th post “Games”. There are minor edits to it but it is essentially the same. I’ve yet to receive them but I’m very excited about them anyways.

I’m sure a great deal more has happened but this is all I can think of at the moment. I’ll try to be back with comics or capstones soon I hope!
